2018 All Star Game Review

Lebron James chose the correct All Stars and left back to Cleveland as a winner.

For the first time in 67 All Star Games, the National Basketball League left the format that has been played since 1951, East versus West.

Fans around the world voted 24 players to participate in the game on Sunday night of All Star Weekend. This year the athletes with the most amount of votes, Lebron James and Stephen Curry, were team captain and they actually drafter their own team, regardless of conference, but based on votes.

The top two athletes were captain, and the eight following those were automatic starters in whichever team to which they were drafted.

The remainder of the athletes voted into the game were drafted as reserves and were subbed in and out as their couch pleased. The game consisted of long 3 point shots and fancy dunks, until Team Stephen was winning by double digits and Team Lebron needed to step up their defense in order to try to win this game.

Team Lebron played full court defense in order to make some stops and hope for a W. Miguel Hernandez, 19, said, “I really like this new format. It seemed to be more competitive than years prior, and it gave us the chance to see teams from difference conferences together.”

Team Lebron eventually came back and tied the game at 144 with a 3 pointer by Lebron with 1:31 to play. Demar Derozen made one free throw to put Team Stephen back up by one, but Lebron James made the go ahead layup after some nice passing from his teammates.

Up by three with 10.7 seconds left in the game, Kevin Durant and Lebron James teamed up to play tag team defense on Durant’s teammate Stephen Curry to avoid him from making a three point shot to win the game. The duo was successful and Curry was unable to get a shot off and was forced to pass the ball with less than two seconds left and the clock ran out before a clean shot could have been released. Team Lebron left home winning a new and redefined all star game 148-145.
