Arrival of the Baby Bombers

By DEAN ROVENTINI

Start spreading the news about the Baby Bombers of New York. The arrival of the young studs of the New York Yankees farm system has given the fans hope for the future of the organization.

In July, the big question for the Yankees was  whether there would be buyers or sellers. If they were buyers, then they would keep the guys they had on the roster and try to make the postseason and probably trade for a player or too to boost the roster. possibly selling one of their prospects.

If they were sellers, they would trade away big assets for younger prospects to build for the future. General Manager Brian Cashman decided to make the Yankees sellers, which hasn’t happened since the mid 1990s. The rebuild in the ’90s produced the “Core 4”  – Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera.

“It makes me nervous, I just hope they are making the right moves and set them up for success for the future,” said Al Roventini, a Yankees fan of 55 years.

The Yankees traded big arms out of the bullpen such as Andrew Miller & Aroldis Chapman and, their best bat of the season, Carlos Beltran. In return, the Yankees made their farm system the 2nd best in an MLB.com ranking, after not being ranked in the Top 10 before the season started.

The “Baby Bombers” include first baseman Tyler Austin, outfielder Aaron Judge, and catcher Gary Sanchez. Austin hit a home run in his first career MLB at-bat but the spotlight has stayed on Judge & Sanchez.

Aaron Judge is a 24-year-old power hitter that was drafted by the Yankees in 2013. Judge stands at 6-foot-7 and 275 lbs with home run power in every swing he takes. His fielding ability is questionable so they stick him in right field due to his powerful throwing arm and lack of range.

Fans have hyped Judge’s arrival since the 2015 season. Unfortunately, Aaron Judge hast lived up to such hype yet.

In the 27 games Judge has played, he has a batting average of .179 with 4 HRs and 10 RBIs(sources by Baseball-Reference.com). There is no need to worry, Judge is young and will grow into a major bat for the Yankees organization.

The one “Baby Bomber” who is taking New York by storm is Gary Sanchez. Sanchez is a 23-year-old catcher from Dominican Republic. According to MLB.com, Gary Sanchez was the 8th ranked catcher prospect in the minor leagues. With the hype of Aaron Judge, Sanchez went under the radar and was only known for his catching abilities behind the plate. In a short amount of time, he has proved that he can field and hit.

sanchez19s-1-webReported on Baseball-Reference.com, in the 46 games Sanchez has played he has a batting average of .330. His BA isn’t the most impressive feat. Gary has slugged 19 HRs with 38 RBis. His numbers are unheard of for a rookie. He is the fastest player to reach 19 career HR in MLB History. In just the short amount of time he has been in the majors, Sanchez has put himself in record books and in talks for Rookie of the Year honors.

“In just a few games this season Sanchez has become the face of the Yankees future and it is exciting to watch.” says, Ramapo senior, Scott Thompson.

The light shines bright in New York for the future. The “Baby Bombers” are a sense of hope for the Yankees’ fan base that rebuilding is a winning way

  1. I feel that with Austin, Judge and Sanchez, from what I have read in this article, has a great chance of increasing the Yankee’s revenue and are going to be great sellers. The welcomes from the Yankees might have a little competition with the new faces of the New York team. These baby-boomers, man; this generation has been introduced to some of the most enhanced dietary supplements. And now with Olympians being allowed to train with marijuana, this may have created the grand-slam monsters of the baby-boomer generation, making this generation of millennials a new breed of athlete.

I’d like to learn more about the history of these guys with baseball and how they came out to be.
