Benefits of Coffee Addiction

By JUSTICE LEVINE

Recent studies have shown that consuming anywhere from 3-5 cups of coffee per day can extend your life, better your focus or workout, and even prevent terminal disease.

Because caffeine helps fat cells break down body fat and use it as fuel for training, it contributes to weight loss, as well as the fact that coffee contains magnesium and potassium, which helps the human body use insulin, regulating blood sugar levels and reducing cravings for sugar and snacks. Not to mention the energy boost, studies show that having one cup an hour before a workout can increase performance by up to 12 percent.

Studies conducted at Harvard confirm that coffee contains a lot of antioxidants, that work as little warriors fighting and protecting against free radicals within your body. Some of these contribute to breaking down insulin, as previously mentioned, which can help prevent type 2 diabetes. Ultimately having anywhere from 2-6 cups of coffee a day can extend your life, due to the fact that it fights diseases as well as its tendency to brighten your mood and stimulate awareness. When caffeine addicted Sarah Chaudhry learned this fact she said, “I have on average 3-5 cups of coffee per day, and sometimes the only cure for a rough day is something off the secret menu at Starbucks.”

Kyara Baker, 21 of Dumont, is not a coffee lover, “I hate coffee, but I keep trying different types hoping I will like it because I like the social aspect of going to a coffee shop or having a cup with friends.” adding that the only caffeinated beverage she enjoys is a vanilla chai tea latte, specifically from Cool Beans coffee shop in Oradell. Another benefit of drinking coffee is that it can help reduce risk of depression and suicidal tendencies.

By contrast, bad quality coffee can have a lot of impurities in it, which can cause sickness, headache or a general bad feeling. This can happen if your coffee is made from beans that have been over ripped or otherwise ruined. Even one ruined bean can make your cup toxic. The only foolproof way to avoid this is to invest in high quality coffee beans.

Coffee really shouldn’t be consumed during pregnancy, or during childhood. The reason for this is that when pregnant the caffeine reaches the baby, who is hyper sensitive to it. As for children between the ages of 5-14, it can increase bedwetting as well as contribute to insomnia. If you have high cholesterol, filtered coffee is the best kind for you because it reduces certain chemicals that can be dangerous.

All in all, if you are an adolescent or an adult without high cholesterol or expecting a child, coffee is extremely beneficial and good for your health.
