Donald Trump voters heralded the inauguration of the 45th president on Jan. 20 calling on him  to uphold America first, his promises to create more jobs, overhaul healthcare  and unite the country.

Voters  interviewed said that  in his first 100 days they want President Trump to create more jobs and improve healthcare. They were happy to hear him reference the “one nation under God,” which pleased the Christian community. In doing so, he is further uniting the country. Trump has already signed off on crucial executive actions and is working to uphold his promise to “Make America Great Again.”

“In his first 100 days in office, Trump should look to come up with a realistic replacement for the Affordable Care Act, restore relations with foreign countries such as Israel, and he should definitely get a head start on bringing back jobs, ” said college sophomore, Alex Evans.

Trump was sworn in on Jan. 20  as the 45th president of the United States where he unexpectedly beat out Hillary Clinton in a contentious election. Skepticism arose seeing as Trump had no political background. Aside from his lack of background, he has stirred up controversy among feminists accusing him of being irrationally sexist and disrespecting toward woman. Many protests and teargassing’s later, Trump has caused an uproar in the community.

Trump is a New York  billionaire who has never held public office. Critics described Trump’s candidacy as unconventional and unprecedented.  After losing the popular vote 48.1% to 46%,Trump had swept the Electoral College vote 304 to 232. His promise to  “Make America Great Again” is being upheld and while only being six days in office, he has already signed off on 12 executive actions with more to come.

According to PBS News, Trump’s campaign had released a “Contract with the American Voter” blueprint last October which had mapped out his plans for his first 100 days in office. His most recent actions so far have addressed the border wall, one of his original statements, where he plans on constructing a wall along the southern border.

Along with the idea of immigration, he has signed off on deportations and sanctuary cities where he plans on stepping up of the deportation of those who are living illegally in the country: “First, he prioritizes seven groups of people for deportation. It is anyone: convicted of a crime, charged with a crime, who has committed a chargeable offense, has misrepresented themselves to the government, has abused a welfare program, who is under deportation order and who may “in the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security,: according to PBS.

Trump has signed off on four different policies which are meant to better manufacturing regulations, ensure that all pipelines built or repaired in the United States be constructed with American made materials. He has ordered that agencies and the chairman of the White House council make it a point to set up faster deadlines  and environmental approval for “high priority” infrastructure projects. He is ordering that permits for the Dakota Access and Keystone oil pipelines be moved along in an expedited manner.

Next, the Federal hiring freeze was signed off on which tells agencies that they are not permitted to fill any vacant positions nor open new ones, with the  exceptions being military personnel and critical public safety positions.

His promise of bringing in more money to America will be upheld by him singing the TPP which withdraws the United States from all Trans-Pacific partnership agreements and from signing the trade deal.

Organizations that provide abortion services will be defunded.

All regulations that are now in process have been frozen until reviewed by Trump’s administration.

Finally, he has signed off on the ACA Rollback, which allows all agency heads to waive the requirements of the Affordable Care Act to the “maximum extent permitted by law” (Desjardins, PBS News).

In his first few days as one of the most powerful people on the planet, Trump has issued an executive order to abrogate certain parts of the Affordable Care Act. According to the New York Times, this is one step in the process of completely change this healthcare act implemented under former President, Barrack Obama.

Local Trump supporters expressed optimism that the new president will fulfill his campaign promises.

Ryan Natale, 23 of Suffern, N.Y. is a die-hard Trump supporter. He has been active in  plenty of debates regarding immigration, the economy, and all the other hot button issues.

As a Christian man, Natale liked the continual reference to God and being one nation under God and Trump’s constant religious references throughout the different speeches. When asked what President Trump should tackle his first 100 days, Natale said: bringing jobs brought back to the U.S.,  building a wall to prevent immigration, and overall just a better economy.

“I thought the ceremony was very well done, very professional and everything went perfect, and went as planned; everyone involved did their part and then some,” he said.

Rose Marie Tuccillo, 78, of Airmont, N.Y. supported Trump from the beginning (even earlier wishing he ran in 2012). A registered Democrat, Tuccillo hopes he would bring the country together, stem violence, provide health insurance to the poor, destroy ISIS, and secure the border.

“We have waited a long time for someone like him to try and unite the country; as he is his own unique person,” Tuccillo said.

Mario Benardo, 66 of Englewood Cliffs has been a Trump supporter ever since the slogan “Make America Great Again” came out. Though he does’t approve of the type of person Trump is in general, he believes Trump can ultimately wake up America. As an Italian immigrant who migrated into the United States when he was 22 Benardo believed in the “american dream” of if you work hard, always giving it your all you will be successful.

“I believe America has lost it’s way, we have gotten used to the notion that we are the greatest nation in the world. We forgot our roots of what drove this nation into being a world power.” Answering the question of what he hopes Trump can accomplish in his first 100 days in office; “I hope he can build the work force back up, keep jobs in this country, have the money kept in our country, and to stop getting involved in foreign disputes.”

Liliana Valencia, 50 of Tenafly wasn’t necessarily a huge Trump supporter but agreed with some of the ideas he had proposed throughout his campaign. “I don’t necessarily believe in building a wall, but immigration must be cut down. Finding a job now-a-days is difficult if you don’t have at least a bachelors, because it’s so much easier to hire an illegal immigrant to do the job for half the cost, plus you don’t have to worry if they get hurt on the job since legally they aren’t their employees.”

Asked what she would want Trump to accomplish in her first 100 days in office; “It’s simple stop talking about building a wall, but just put more law enforcement officers posted on the border, and then jobs will suddenly start to be available.”

Sebastian Valencia, 25 of Baltimore Maryland, voted for Trump just because he could not morally vote for Hillary and he wanted to stay loyal to his party. Not agreeing with Trump’s views, he still felt as if Trump would give this country the change in which it needed in his opinion.

“For the first 100 days I want Trump just to do something positive for this country, he didn’t win the popular vote but somehow won the electoral college votes. He’s our president now, that’s not going to change anytime soon. We need to united as a nation and root for success from the Trump administration.”

While many feel Trump will damage our nation, student Christie Zembryski, 20 of Lyndhurst, is proud to declare that she has supported Trump since the beginning. “He will change our nation and people need to be more open to seeing that. It is not right for people to wish poorly upon him, because whether it is liked or not, he will be our president for the next 4 years.”

The day of the inauguration there were various protests and tear-gassing incidents in Washington D.C. This type of hate does not promote positive future endeavors. “All of the protests are unnecessary, because at the end of the day, he will still be our president and his main goal is to move our nation in a better direction.”

From his speech at the inauguration to his tweets, he has openly projected how he wants to bring back jobs, borders, wealth and dreams and only with the support of the nation, will this be possible. Zembryski believes a better future is possible and is in the near future, and urges others to leave behind their angst and believe in the ability of our new president.

Despite the many protests against the Trump presidency, his supporters remain optimistic that he will deliver to the American people his vision that his slogan “Make America Great Again” truly enraptures.

“It was really amazing to witness the peaceful transition of power,” said Evans. “I think in a nutshell, it truly exemplified democracy in this country and I think that is such a powerful thing.”//end the story here.

  1. Something new I learned was finding out that Donald Trump signed an executive order deportation. Deporting those who are living illegally in this country is extremely unfair not knowing what tragedies led them here. Also how does he plan on deporting people from a country that was stolen by us from Native Americans? I want to know more about how the people would react to this order and how would he plan on doing so.

  2. 1. I learned that Trump is really trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act

    2. I would of liked to hear what the Trump voters thought of Trump’s cabinet nominees.
